Makeup artist Erica M, from Brazil to Sweden

2018.11.19

Hello, Erica M here. I’m so excited to answer some questions about my makeup career and how KSTING helped me to come into the Swedish market.

When did you move to Sweden and for how long have you been working as a makeup artist? Can you name a few famous people and brands that you have been working for?

I moved to Sweden nine months ago and I’ve been working as a makeup artist and hairstylist for 18 years. During this time I had the privilege to work for big companies and famous people from all over the world – most of the time in Brazil but many other countries as well. I worked for brands like Louis Vuitton, Diesel, Gillette, L’oreal, Hurley, Nike, American Crew and

magazines such as French Vogue, Numero, Vanity Fair, Jalouse, L’officiel, Madame Fígaro, Hercules, Elle, GQ and Glamour. I’ve worked for photographers like Giampaolo Sgura, Michael Roberts, Henrique Badulesco, Mathias Vriens and Claudio Carpi. Also, I had the pleasure to work with famous people like Isabeli Fontana, Fernanda Tavares, Ana Beatriz Barros, Tais Araujo, Grazi Massafera, Carolina Ferraz etc.

Is Sweden a major conversion to Brazil?

Well, I can say that the culture is very very different – the way of doing things as well. But I believe the professionalism has the same principles all over the world. Such as being in time, organized, trustworthy, knowing your own responsibility when working as a group or individual.

Has KSTING helped you to come into the makeup world in Sweden?

I have soooo much to thank KSTING for. They’ve opened many doors for me, given me a lot of new contacts and a lot of work.

Have you belonged to any agencies before? If yes, do you miss it?

When I started my career there was no agencies in Rio de Janeiro so it was through contacts that I got the jobs. After four years they opened an agency in Rio and I started to work with them. Their focus was more on international clients and it was a great time with amazing jobs. Most of my international work came from them so I believe in that way of working. But after six years the agency close down because of a huge crisis in the international market so I continued my career solo. For me it’s like a partnership where everyone has to do their own part of the work.

Have KSTING helped you in general?

I think one of the most difficult things when you move to another country is to be able to work at the same profession level as you’re used to. Are the Swedish clients going to give you a chance to work? How do you get into the “Swedish bubble”? How much money are you going to make? How do you pay taxes? All those things. Therefor I’m very happy that KSTING found me here in Stockholm and that they’ve helped me get into this new market.

I hope you liked to read about my career so far and that you got the answers you were hoping for. There are still some more questions that I didn’t have time for, but I promise to answer them in a part two after new years.

Happy Holidays! And best wishes for 2019.
